Why Local Motion?

There are many youths and children in the impoverished communities of South Africa, who lack the necessary support, resources, and additional platforms to help them reach their full potential. The lack of opportunity increases their involvement in violence, alcoholism, drugs, abuse, gangsterism and human trafficking. In addition to that, current youth unemployment (15 to 34-year-olds) in July 2023 measured at 60,70% or 4,9 million youths and averaged at 55.83% for 2013-2023. The margins of the window for generational change have significantly narrowed down in recent years, causing the elements mentioned above, to become a sad reality for most. Is this okay? Should we be concerned about the future of our youth? How can we bring change in these communities? Certainly things HAVE to change.

Local Motion was established in George, Western Cape in 2020, with the vision of creating a supportive environment where youths and young adults can grow and thrive. We recognized the need for an after-school program that not only provide academic support but also focus on fostering creativity, physical activity, exposure and mentorship. Our founder, Sabrina Horn driven by a passion for youth development and community engagement, set out to create a space where children and young adults can develop important life skills while growing up. We are working towards creating a LOCAL MOTION that revives our communities through releasing successful young adults, as leaders, who are driven to achieve in life, to live beyond the community’s norm, and to be the pioneers for the next generation.
